Serving Central Pennsylvania for Over 50 Years
CTR began as a Pyrofax Gas Dealer in Martinsburg in the mid-1940s. Owned and
operated by K.R. Miller and John Bolger, the dealership was a cylinder
exchange home delivery business until 1961.
Delivering Bulk Propane Since 1961
CTR is not new to bulk propane delivery. In 1961, Pyrofax built a bulk plant
between Duncansville and Newry on Route 220. The business served Blair,
Bedford, and Huntingdon Counties until the dealership was sold in 1973.
CTR Gets its Name in 1973
When William Collins, Robert Tatar, and John Riblet bought the dealership in
1973, the CTR name was born. The CTR name is still going strong over a
quarter of a century later! Collins, Tatar, and Riblet sold the business in
1977 to Martin Oil Company in Bellwood. John and Jan Gieg bought CTR from
Martin Oil Company in 1978.
Dave Helsel Takes the Reins in 1980
Dave Helsel, current owner and operator of CTR, came on board as manager of
CTR on April 1, 1980. After overseeing the operation for two years, Dave
bought the dealership in July of 1982.
C.T.R. Supply currently serves about 2,000 residential, commercial,
industrial and agricultural customers with propane service in Central
Pennsylvania. We currently have contracts with a major supplier to purchase
and market propane.
Dave Helsel is a member of the National Propane Gas Association and
Pennsylvania Propane Gas Association. He is also a member of the
Mid-Atlantic Hearth Products Association.
CTR Believes in Community Involvement
CTR believes that local businesses should make a positive impact on the
local community. To
give back to the community, CTR:
- Organized a Fire School for local fire departments to better learn how
to fight propane fires
CTR donates propane for a number of community events
- Claysburg Community Days
- St. Patrick Festival in Newry
- Duncansville Community Days
- Keystone Country Festival Food Vendors
Dave Helsel, owner of CTR, is very active in the community. Dave is:
- Member of Blair County Housing Authority and Redevelopment Authority
- Former Member Rotary Club
- The Blair County Chamber of Commerce
- Past President of the Blair County Community Action Agency
- Member of the Allegheny Mountains Convention and Visitors Bureau
- Former Greenfield Township Supervisor from 1980 to 1987

CTR Expands and Re-locates
In October 1998, CTR Supply opened a new showroom and re-located the offices
to the Renaissance Plaza, 1409 Third Ave, Duncansville, Pennsylvania.
After years of gradual growth in the gas fireplace and space heater retail
sales field the company expanded its interest in the market.
C.T.R. Supply, Inc. became a distributor for Empire Comfort Systems full
line of gas fireplace, cast iron stoves, space heaters and Broilmaster gas
grills.
C.T.R. Supply, Inc. sells both wholesale and retail for Empire Comfort
Systems. We have many of the units in the showroom with live burning
displays.
C.T.R. Supply, Inc. carries the areas largest selection of gas grill parts
and accessories. We have burners and cooking grids for most grills.
